Ok so by now you probably all know about the new IMVU partner offers that can get you some free credits. Well even though you can get some “real IMVU credits” as they claim, you will also get 10 times more spam in your email and/or a lot of unwanted charges on your credit card and cell phone bill!
Even though they claim that a lot of these partner offers are “free”, they’re not! With a lot of the offers, you have to give a credit card number. Even though you will not be charged that day, make sure to read the fine print. More than likely there is something in the fine print telling you that after the free trial period is over, your credit card will be charged a ridiculous amount of money on a monthly basis.
Sadly, most people will not read the fine print and therefore will be totally shocked when they check their card one day and there’s less money than should be or even worse, has a negative balance. If you happen to talk your parent’s into letting you use one their cards, they’re not going to be too happy about those extra charges.
Other offers ask for your cell phone number and then send you a pin that you have to enter to prove it’s you. Once again, many are not going to read the fine print where it tells you about the monthly plan you will get charged for. You’ll see a huge amount added to your cell phone bill each month and wonder why. If your parent’s pay your bill then they’ll probably flip out!
Also, by giving out your email to all these 3rd party “partners” you are basically setting yourself up to receive lots of unwanted spam and junk mail! IMVU is basically selling your email to these partners, who will then give your email out to lots of other websites who will then start sending you a bunch of crap everyday. This is what you call email harvesting.
Since IMVU is more than likely going by the email you use when signing up for these offers in order to know that it’s actually you, there’s really no way you can get around it besides just not signing up at all.
So, if you think a few IMVU credits is worth all this trouble then go for it! If not, then there’s lots of other safer methods you can use and I suggest you use those instead!
